Become a Tryon Forest Adventures Counselor!
Summer Counselor volunteer to assist Friends of Tryon Creek staff and instructors in facilitating a safe, fun and educational outdoor experience for Tryon Forest Adventures nature day camp program for groups of children from 6 - 14 years old as they hike and learn in the forest.
No previous experience needed!
Position Requirements
Age 14 years and older
To confirm placements and supplement program costs families will pay a one-time fee. $20 for members and $50 for non-members. If this presents a barrier please reach out to us.
Time Commitment minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 4 weeks (preferred) taking place between June 23rd - August 29th, 2025.
In person group interviews, several date options in mid-May. (required)
Orientation Friday, June 20th 9am-3:30 pm (required)
Position Benefits:

52+ volunteer hours for school requirements
Resume-building skills such as customer service, class management experience, confidence building and public speaking
Individual mentoring with staff
Certificate of completion
Upon successful completion a letter of recommendation can be written by Friends of Tryon Creek Staff
Internship Responsibilities:
Assist in welcoming, supervising, and managing children
Help guide hiking groups of up to 10 children
Assist in setting up and leading art, science, and fun activities
Help instructors manage groups of children
Play games with children
Supervise children in all activities
Internship Qualifications:
Currently in 9th – 12th grade (exceptions made in some cases)
Commitment of 2 - 4 weeks of camp
Attending orientation
Positive attitude and willingness to learn
