Guided Hike: Fire, Forest Ecology, and Climate Change

Take an in-depth look at Tryon Creeks’ geology, plants, history, and more!

Join a volunteer park naturalist for a walk in Tryon Creek State Natural Area. Topics will vary from week to week and the program theme will be aimed at more complex content geared toward adults and youth ages 12 and up. Walking distances will average 2 miles.

This week’s topic Fire, Forest Ecology & Climate Change focus will be a hike through 'forest time' to learn about the importance of fire (and other disturbances) to the ecology of different types of Pacific Northwest forests. We'll look at specific trees and plants which are indicators of ecological succession that follow such events. Plus we'll discuss climate change impacts on Pacific Northwest forests.

Space is limited, register here.
