Educator FilmFest Workshop

  • Friends of Tryon Creek 11321 South Terwilliger Boulevard Portland, OR, 97219 United States (map)

Educators, join Freshwater Illustrated and Friends of Tryon Creek for a free in-person workshop where we’ll be both creekside and inside. You'll learn how to use stunning freshwater films, photos, and science activities to engage and inspire your students.

One of the films we’ll share features Gabe Sheoships, Tryon Creek’s Executive Director, who inspired us to collect aquatic environmental DNA (eDNA) samples with youth attending summer camp programs at Tryon this summer. Environmental DNA is an easy cost-effective way to find what species are present in the creek and inform conservation efforts. During the workshop, we’ll share hands-on sampling directions, equipment, youth involvement examples, and what we have learned overall from that initiative.

You’ll leave with new friends, new ideas, and the knowledge that by teaching about freshwaters you are contributing to an environmental solution. This in-person gathering is open for K-12 formal and nonformal educators. Lunch is provided.
