Tryon TREKKERS After School

Play outside every day after school! Tryon Trekkers explore nature and culture using STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) enrichment through applied, hands-on activities and games. Trekkers explore nearby parks and green spaces (on foot) and visit Tryon Creek State Natural Area (ride the Tryon shuttle van).

Building on 40 years of nature education programming, through its Nature Day Camp and School Field Trips, Friends of Tryon Creek developed Tryon Trekkers to engage a new audience after school. Tryon Trekkers is currently available at Markham Elementary School and Jackson Middle School through the SUN (Schools Uniting Neighborhoods) program.

Tryon Trekkers is also now available at Maplewood Elementary School. The program serves all grades on Tuesdays, 2:15 – 5 pm. Based at Maplewood, Tryon Trekkers will explore nearby April Hill Park, utilize Maplewood's Wildwood nature classroom, and Tryon Creek State Natural Area.
