“A-Walk-in-the-Woods” Nature Store

nature_store

We hope you notice we have adjusted the inventory of the Nature Store to include primarily items that you might use for a walk in the woods at Tryon Creek State Natural Area…reusable water bottles; Trillium logo t-shirts caps, vests and hoodies; nature guides for all ages; books for hiking with kids and dogs; handsome hand-carved walking sticks.

Current environmental and economic challenges had prompted us to look more closely at what we were offering for sale and to benefit the programs of the Friends of Tryon Creek. The Nature Store Committee, Mary North, Catherine Vail, Barbara Parker, and Carolyn Vernon, with Staff and Board help, have shaped new guidelines for what we stock, as we continue to offer a range of items with particular care for affordability and sustainability:

  • no cheap plastic toys for kids, but interesting rocks and sticker books
  • no large stuffed animals, but finger puppets and fundannas
  • no jewelry, but little Brushkin magnets and unique cards

So…when you need to identify that pretty little flower on the path OR you forgot your hat on a sunny day OR you need a gift for your niece…think about stopping at the Nature Store… pass on the unique gift of Nature…and benefit Everybody!

Kids’ Adventures with Borrow-a-Pack

wildlife_pack

Sound like fun? Just like the popular cartoon girl (rhymes with explor-ah), we are starting a new program to make hiking even more fun for kids at Tryon Creek. Thanks to a generous offer from our great friends at REI, we will be loaning 3 small backpacks for forest adventures. For $2 rental fee (and leave us your driver’s license as security), your child can borrow a backpack for an hour and be head of the expedition to the woods. Check at the front desk for availability…and have a great time!
